I’m a closet drummer. In fact, I’m a closet bass player as well. As a kid I listened to drums as much as I did any pianist/keyboardist. I even played a little when I was in High school. I played bass for a year and was hopeless. Dad wouldn’t buy me a drum kit, so instead I learnt to programme them. I had access to his Korg M1 ‘Music Workstation’ which at the time was ridiculously limited, but I learnt to programme the hell out that thing - I upgraded to a Roland MC500, and it lasted me right though till an early version of Logic. It’s kept me extremely busy ever since.
My intention was to track ‘The Quiet’ with a band, but as time went on, and I kept obsessively tweaking, I had spent so much time creating a sound, that I decided to release it as is. I’ve spent my whole life programming for everyone else, that I figured I may as well do some for myself!
I’m fortunate and grateful to feature the great Brett Garsed, Emilio Kormanic and Grace Baker on a few tracks

Moving from strength to strength in leaps and bounds is the only way to describe whats happening here... The distinct 70's vibe is unmistakable but it's not even close to a tired rock theme, this is a personal art; from the amazing keyboards (also played by james, not programmed) pushing you through a twisted abstract wonderland quickly side-stepping over into the solid, disgustingly fast solo/prog all JNI fans have come to crave. Denalavis moves beyond it all by bringing in some beautifully melodic guitar tones which only enhance the brilliance of the past two releases from James; rather than a "moving forward", this feels like his own personal niche is being carved deeper and deeper. 10/10 (I'll chance it to 12/10 if you play Resolute Emnity live ffs haha) leeroystake

The reasons I love the album are to many to name. It's a drum clinc and the grooves on the post soul R&B jazz tunes are heavy but swing. Oz Noy's songwriting is masterful, but I think we're all getting used to that and his guitar playing keeps getting better and better and more interesting. What 's not to like? I also use that tune to check my sound system because so perfectly laid out in all registers. JS jstillwellcpa
